The 5th Annual Sledfest will be
held at Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint,
ID, April 19-21. The last four
years were big but Sledfest organizers are promising this year's event to be
even better.
Amateur and professional men
and women racers will provide entertainment in hillcross, hilldrag, hillclimb and Dash for Cash events. The excitement of plenty of action, position shifting
and close finishes should keep the crowd entertained through all three days.
With a bird's-eye view, the crowd never misses any of the action and there
will be plenty of that.
There will be almost 150 races
over the three-day event and with Klim as Sledfest's main sponsor, there will
be plenty for spectators to enjoy and receive in free giveaways and raffle
prizes.
The hillcross and hillclimb are
all done on snowmobiles and snowbikes. The hillclimb will be run right up the
main face of Schweitzer
Mountain, in full view of
the crowd for all the action.
The snowbikes keep everyone in
awe of this new technology. If you've yet to see a snowbike, picture a dirt bike
with both wheels removed with a ski attached up front and a special patented
snowmobile track in back. Timbersled is sponsoring the snowbike event this year
and is building a specially designed track for snowbike boondocking to give the
racers and spectators what they want to make this event exciting.
Schweitzer Mountain's Taps bar and restaurant will be open with a great
view of all the action for a great party, lunch, dinner or get-together. Spectators
and riders alike can plan to stay overnight on the mountain. If you call for
reservations and mention that you are coming for Sledfest, you'll get a special
discount
Trophies will
be provided for all classes from snowbikes to Juniors to Semi-Pro to Pro to hillclimb. Event organizers expect the new Dash for Cash to draw a lot of
racers because it is all about getting the top three cash prizes. Many first
time riders in both the snocross and hillcross will
walk up to the podium by placing first, second or third.
RMSHA Hillclimb Championships
This is the second
year that RMSHA will have its hillclimb championships as part
of Sledfest. The semi-finals will take place Friday with the finals on Saturday
morning. RMSHA (Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association) is the premier
snowmobile hillclimb association known all across the North American snowbelt
for providing safe, competitive racing for the top athletes and teams in the
sport. RMSHA brings together the finest professional and amateur athletes in
the sport and provides the best, most technically challenging courses. A good
day at a RMSHA race combines speed, competition and, quite often, some
spectacular crashes and saves.
